Why I am running for Arlington County Board

I am running for County Board because I want to have a say in Arlington's future.  I have lived in Arlington for nearly fifteen years.  It is the place I've chosen to raise my two young daughters and I have a vested interest in creating a brighter future for this community. I've watched the landscape change around me; however, recent years have led me to feel frustrated with some of the decisions and lack of action taken by the County Board. Instead of complaining to my friends and neighbors, I am stepping up to make the changes I want to see, not only for myself and my children, but for all the people of Arlington. I am running for County Board because we must put community first, and I want to help ensure that the voices of this community are heard at the highest levels of government.

For too long, the County Board has been beholden to developers, with little regard for the concerns of residents. This has resulted in a lack of vision and direction for Arlington, with no long-term strategic plan in place. Residents feel like they are not being heard, that their voices are not being taken into account, and that their concerns are being ignored. As a member of the County Board, I am committed to changing this and making sure that Arlington's residents have a say in its future.

My vision for our community is also one that is safe and secure for everyone. As a mother, I know the importance of having a safe environment for our families to thrive in. That is why I am committed to tackling the rise in crime in our county and addressing the impact of drugs in our schools. Safety and security are not just buzzwords for me, they have been the driving force behind my professional life. A link to my full resume can be found below.

The solutions I propose and will seek to implement if elected are practical and achievable.  More importantly, I firmly believe they will positively impact Arlington.  I take a no-nonsense approach to addressing challenges. I am committed to doing what's right for Arlington, even if it means standing up to special interests or breaking from the party talking points. I believe in a pragmatic approach to problem-solving, one that is grounded in expertise, logic, and data.

I encourage you to visit my website at www.julieforarlingtonva.com to learn more about the solutions I propose.  Some of these solutions include:

  • Creating safe spaces for youth to deter drug use

  • Reevaluating how the county calculates parking allotments for new developments

  • Developing a task force with regional partners to address mutual crime-related issues

  • Focusing more on family-sized housing options, rather than smaller units

  • Publishing the comments received by the County Board from residents and stakeholders

  • Revising the way the County sends out alerts to make them more neighborhood-focused
